Wiki User July 15, AM. You cannot extract ephedrine or pseudoephedrine from a mineral block.

Anyone who tells you that they have done it is either mistaken or a liar. The claim that ephedrine can be extracted from a livestock mineral block has been proven as false and erroneous by Drug Enforcement Administration DEA scientists upon attempting to extract ephedrine from mineral blocks through various methods that have been "tried and tested" by various people.

The only reason that these people would be wanting to attempt to extract such substance from mineral blocks would only be for the purpose of making an illegal narcotic drug called Crystal Meth. Apart from the evidence gathered by the DEA, scientists from an anonymous major feed-producing company have also "concluded that [mineral salt blocks or licks] contain no ephedrine or pseudoephedrine.

Note that producing such a highly illegal substance can and will land you in jail. If you aren't in jail yet for taking or making such narcotics, it's only a matter of time before you are. Please see the related links below. See related question below.

Methamphetamine stimulates the central nervous system. It comes in powder or small "rocks" or "crystals," and can range in color from white to brown, depending on how it's cooked.

It tastes bitter but easily dissolves in liquids. Depending on its method of production, it can be odorless or stink like the bottom of a football team's laundry hamper. It has many names: "speed," "crank," "chalk," "shabu," "shi-shi," "spoosh," "zip," "boo," "chicken-feed," "geep," "scootie," "crystal," "ice," "glass" or "load of laundry.

It's snorted, swallowed, smoked or injected. Eaten, it can take 20 minutes to hit the brain. Inhaled through the nose, it can take three minutes. Smoked or injected, it can take eight seconds.

Its effects last far longer than an equivalent amount of cocaine, maybe eight or 10 hours, compared to 30 minutes. It makes you feel smarter, faster, stronger, sexier, happier and generally quite capable of kicking the world in the butt.

The bad news is that it actually makes you dumber, slower, weaker and unable to have an orgasm. It can cause memory loss, psychoses, heart damage, brain damage, high blood pressure, insomnia, tooth loss and intense paranoia. And then there are the side effects from the chemicals used to make meth, such as lead poisoning from batches made with lead acetate.

Like adrenaline, which it mimics, meth triggers the brain's fight-or-flight mechanism, making users belligerent and aggressive. They often complain about itchy skin or scalp, and they pick at themselves incessantly.

All of this notwithstanding, Steve Preisler is not ashamed of teaching people to make it, even though he chooses to write under the nom de plume "Uncle Fester" a nickname he says he got in college because of his penchant for making explosives and blowing things up, a la the character in the "Addams Family". Nor is he shy about passing along little tips to meth users and cooks to avoid detection.

It is not illegal to write or publish such information, although Congress has considered passing a law that would make it so. The "war on drugs," he says, "is futile.View Full Version : Replacing pseudoephedrine.

Sudafed can be used to make meth, which is bad. There is talk of replacing the pseudoepinephrine ingredient, which is necessary for meth, with phenylephrine.

My understanding is that it performs just as well as pseudoepinephrine, and cannot be used to maufacture meth. Is this true? Are there other problems with phenylephrine? There is talk of replacing the pseudoepinephrine ingredientSorry, don't know the answer to your question, but it's pseudoephedrine. There is such a thing as pseudoepinephrine but pseudoephedrine is what's in Sudafed and is what's used for meth.

I don't know if it can be used to make meth, but replacement of pseudoephedrine has gone considerably beyond "talk" here in California. I was in Target this weekend and there wasn't a single product of that type that contained anything other than phenylephrine. I don't know how similar they are. Oh sure, there are Eureka! But scientists mostly spend months or even years conducting experiments hoping to achieve an outcome although often the answer remains elusive.

So it is not surprising that after 12 years, organic chemists Andrew Smallridge and Maurie Trewhella were thrilled to discover a relatively simple, environmentally friendly method of making ephedrine - the key ingredient in cold, cough, asthma and hay fever medicines.

Ephedrine was once produced from the ephedra plant and is a pharmaceutical chemical that ranks fourth in terms of global production behind paracetamol, ibuprofen and amoxicillin.

Hundreds of tonnes of ephedrine are produced each year, a third of it in China where the bulk of the production is from the ephedra plant and involves an expensive and wasteful system to extract the pure ephedrine. Ephedrine is made through a yeast fermentation process, a method discovered in the s that requires large volumes of water at first, followed by substantial quantities of highly toxic and expensive organic solvents to extract the ephedrine.

As well, the fermentation reaction has to be kept at a constant temperature and continually stirred, both operations requiring huge amounts of energy.

But we were also keen on 'green chemistry' which was new when we started this investigation in the s and we wanted to reduce the environmental impacts arising from the manufacture of drugs. This curious cross between the gaseous and liquid forms of CO2 has the properties of both: it is free flowing like a gas and will penetrate into small spaces but also acts as a liquid, able to dissolve a large range of other compounds.

Like a gas, super-critical CO2 can penetrate the tough outer shell of the coffee bean but, like a liquid, it can also dissolve and remove the caffeine.

At present, ephedrine is produced using yeast in much the same way bread or alcohol is made: yeast is added to a sugar solution, it starts fermenting. All Rights Reserved.
